Do toilets flush backwards below the equator?

The direction a toilet flushes isn't determined by which side of the equator it's located. Water flow and toilet design causes the water to flow clockwise or counterclockwise.
The popular myth that the Coriolis effect causes draining water to flow in a particular direction is false. The Coriolis effect is caused by the earth's rotation, and it only has an influence on very large objects such as hurricanes. Water draining from a toilet, sink or bathtub is too small to be impacted by this phenomenon. The bowl design and the direction the water flows into a flushing toilet determines the rotation direction as it leaves.
