The modern toothbrush was invented in 1938, and it was marketed by Dupont de Nemours under the name "Dr. West's Miracle Toothbrush." The toothbrush's earliest origins can be traced to wooden sticks with frayed ends used by people in ancient Babylon and Egypt.
In the late 15th century, the Chinese designed a new version of the toothbrush by attaching the thick hair from the neck of a boar to a handle made of either wood or bone. Europeans later exchanged the rough pig hair for a softer horse hair. Natural animal hair was used until the invention of nylon in 1938.
