Do top loader washing machines hold more than front loaders?

Top-loading washers generally have a lower capacity than front-loading washers. On average, top-loading washers can hold between 12 and 16 pounds of clothing, or 3 to 5 cubic feet, and front-loading washers can hold from 12 to 20 pounds of clothing, or 3 to 5.1 cubic feet.
Top-loading washing machines are available in traditional and high-efficiency models, and options range from basic controls to multiple cycle choices and wash options. Most front-loading washers feature advanced wash settings, such as steam cycles, touch screens and antibacterial wash cycles. Many top-loading and front-loading washers are available with an Energy Star seal that indicates the appliances use less energy to operate.
