Among midsized pickup trucks, the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier were rated the best in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study as of 2015. The top midsized truck in J.D. Power's Dependability Study (based on 2012 models) was the Honda Ridgeline, although the Tacoma and Frontier were rated behind the Ridgeline.

The Ridgeline, Tacoma and Frontier also led the way in J.D. Power's Automotive Performance, Execution and Layout Study, which examines what consumers like about their vehicles after 90 days of ownership.

The Tacoma also was Car and Driver's top 2015 midsize truck, and the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon were listed as Ones to Watch.
