Toyota of Hollywood was established on Oct. 31, 1957. The Japanese company hoped to make a splash in the American second-car market with its vehicles.

The Hollywood Toyota location became the American headquarters of the company. Toyota's cars were slow to catch on in the United States, and its flagship vehicle, the Toyopet Crown sedan, was a major flop.
