TRA stands for Transforming Rental Assistance. It is an initiative sponsored by U.S. Housing and Urban Development Commission with the stated goal of preserving and creating more affordable rental housing available to families and individuals.
The TRA initiative went into effect in 2011. It allocated $350 million to the preservation of affordable housing choices and preserved an estimated 300,000 rental properties throughout the United States. These properties are available to those on public housing assistance, giving families who are new to the program more options for places to live and those already receiving assistance more choices when they need to move.
