What is a trail groomer?

A trail groomer is responsible for ensuring that the terrain for a skiing, snowmobiling or snowboarding area is safe and smooth. The groomer is responsible for smoothing out moguls and bumps along a trail and maintaining adequate snow depth in high-traffic areas.

When a trail groomer comes upon a spot that is not safe or adequate to use, he is responsible for reshaping and rebuilding those spots until they are again usable. As a trail groomer examines the snow along a trail, he also is responsible for pushing out snow from snow drifts and packing newly fallen snow to create a safe path.
