What is travertine flooring?

Travertine is a type of tile flooring in which the tiles are made from a type of limestone. It comes in polished and unpolished varieties and is one of the more expensive flooring options for homes.

Travertine limestone comes in a wide range of colors, and floors can be designed to incorporate one or more of these natural shades. It is considered a luxury building item, which means it is more expensive than many other flooring materials. Unpolished travertine is porous and picks up stains easily. Polished travertine locks out stains and stays cleaner, but does so at the expense of the stone's natural traction, making floors slippery.
