What treatments are available for calcium deposits in nails?

There are no treatments for calcium deposits, or leukonychia, on nails. They usually develop as a result of trauma to the nail and naturally grow out after approximately eight months, according to DrWeil.com.
Contrary to conventional wisdom, calcium deposits are unrelated to calcium deficiency, the Huffington Post notes. Although there is no treatment for the deposits, there are a few things people can do to prevent them, such as avoiding aggressive manicures, DrWeil.com explains. Too much trauma to the nail matrix, or base, causes the white spots to appear. Discontinuing the use of nail polish or nail hardeners might also help, as allergic reactions to polish can also cause leukonychia.
