There are many varieties of trees with purple flowers. Two of the most common are the Jacaranda mimosifolia and the Bauhinia purpurea, or purple orchid tree.
The jacaranda tree grows up to 50 feet tall and spread up to 60 feet wide. This semi-evergreen or deciduous tree offers clusters of purple trumpet-shaped flowers in late spring to early summer.
The purple orchid tree is a fast growing tree that grows up to 35 feet tall and wide. The large 5-inch blossoms appear in the fall, with the flowers resembling an orchid. The orchid tree produces a 12-inch pod of seeds after the flowers appear.
