The Txapanawa, Mashco-Piro, Awa, Matsigenka and Siriono tribes live in the Amazon jungle. The Amazon jungle is home to an estimated 1 million members of 400 different tribes, some of which have not had contact with outsiders in more than 500 years.
Brazil is home to an estimated 77 different uncontacted tribes, and Peru estimates that it has 14 or 15 uncontacted tribes. Brazil only contacts tribes in imminent danger of genocide or disease, and Peru first passed a "no contact" policy in 2006 to protect tribal members from exploitation and illnesses. Other countries with uncontacted tribes include Venezuela, Bolivia, Colombia and Ecuador.
