Where is Troy located in the modern world?

The archaeological site of Hisarlik in northwest Turkey is believed to be the ancient city of Troy. Whether the Trojan War of Greek legend actually took place is still a subject of scholarly debate, as of 2014.

The belief that Hisarlik is the location of Troy is based partially on valuables discovered at the site in the 1800s. German businessman Heinrich Schliemann found objects that supposedly belonged to King Priam, the ruler of Troy during the Trojan War. Troy was established around 3000 B.C. While excavating the site of Hisarlik, archaeologists discovered that the city had been rebuilt several times.
