What is Turbo Boost?

Turbo Boost is a system developed by Intel that allows for active manipulation of the central processing unit's clock speed. Turbo Boost allows for more efficient operation and increased performance.
Turbo Boost is essentially overclocking the CPU for a short period of time. Traditionally, when a person overclocks the CPU of a computer manually, the clock speed of the computer remains at that level indefinitely. This is extremely inefficient and can push the CPU to operate at dangerous temperatures. Intel's Turbo Boost allows for on-demand manipulation of the clock speed, so the increase in performance can be implemented only when needed.
