Turn off the Windows 8 firewall by opening the Windows Firewall menu box from the main search screen and selecting Turn Windows Firewall On or Off from the listed options. In the dialogue box, click Turn Off Windows Firewall, then confirm the selection by clicking OK.
- Open the search box
Move the mouse cursor to the upper-right-hand corner of the screen. Swipe the cursor inward to open the options menu, and click Search.
- Locate Windows Firewall
Click on the search text box, and type "windows firewall". The search results automatically populate as you type.
- Select the appropriate option
Select Windows Firewall from the search results.
- Select the correct option
On the left side of the Windows Firewall box, click Turn Windows Firewall On or Off.
- Enter the administrative password
If prompted, enter the administrative password for the computer.
- Select the proper setting
In the Customize Settings page, click Turn Off Windows Firewall (not recommended). This option is unavailable if your network policy settings prohibit disabling the firewall.
- Choose network firewall settings
Choose the firewall settings for both public and private networks. Be mindful when deactivating, because without a firewall, your computer is susceptible to unwanted inbound connections.
- Confirm your selections
After you've chosen appropriate settings, click OK to confirm.
- Close Windows Firewall box
Click the X button in the upper-right corner of the Windows Firewall box.
