Do two-channel stereo receivers have any advantages over five- or seven-channel receivers?

Two-channel stereo receivers are generally cheaper than five- or seven-channel receivers, but do not have the ability to power the additional speakers required for surround-sound or subwoofer audio setups. Two-channel receivers can also devote more power to each speaker than a multi-channel receiver with the same power consumption.
Two-channel receivers are considered the most basic types of stereo receivers, as their two power channels allow them to support basic stereo sound. This makes a two-channel receiver relatively inexpensive to produce and purchase as compared to receivers with surround-sound capabilities. Therefore, a two-channel receiver may be an economical choice for listening to media only encoded for stereo sound, such as older vinyl records.
