What are the two types of courts?

The two main types of courts in the United States are the federal court system and the state court system. Although these two courts have separate responsibilities, they often interact with each other, such as when a state court case is appealed to a federal court.
Federal courts and state courts typically handle different types of cases. State courts handle most criminal cases, such as those involving theft and murder. They also handle cases dealing with wills and estates, as well as divorce cases. Federal courts deal with issues like bankruptcy, copyrights and patents, as well as cases regarding with whether a law is constitutional. Federal courts also adjudicate disputes between two or more states.
