The company was founded in Toronto in 1922 by the brothers John and Alfred Billes and initially sold only tires and related products. The company has expanded its range since then and is now one of Canada's most successful retailers. It is estimated that 90 percent of Canadians visit a Canadian Tire store at least once per year. The company is also well known for its Canadian Tire Money, a loyalty program, which can be used instead of real money.
