What type of cancer did Michael Douglas have?

Michael Douglas originally told the press that he had throat cancer in 2010, but it turns out that he had tongue cancer instead. Douglas said that he hid his diagnosis because his doctor advised him it would protect his career.

Douglas said that his doctor told him that surgery was an option for tongue cancer, but that there was a chance that he would lose a part of his jaw and tongue. When Douglas talked about his cancer diagnosis for the first time in 2010, he was traveling on a publicity tour for the film "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps."
