Best known for his invention of the electric motor, Michael Faraday lived most of his life in London. Born in Newington Butts, then a part of Surrey and now lying within the London borough of Southwark, Faraday also lived in Islington and Hampton Court during his lifetime.
Faraday's final 19 years were spent at 37 Hampton Court Road, London, and his house still stands to this day. This building is now a private residence and is not open to the public, though the property is marked with a plaque highlighting his years spent there. Refusing a burial in Westminster Abbey, Faraday was instead buried in London's Highgate Cemetery.
