What type of grass seed is used for sod in the northeast United States?

Bentgrass, creeping bentgrass, Kentucky, Canada, rough bluegrass, perennial ryegrass, wheatgrass and fine and tall fescues are types of grasses used for sod in the northeast.
These grasses tend to grow best in areas where the winters are cold and where the summers are warm and dry. Besides the climate, a lawn owner should take into consideration the amount of traffic the grass has to bear, how much water and fertilizer the grass needs, whether it can tolerate drought or shade and whether it's subject to thatch. Owners should also find out what soil conditions the grass grows best in and how resistant it is to pests and diseases.
