The five-lined skink is a lizard that is commonly found in Oklahoma. These lizards have smooth, shiny black bodies with yellow stripes and bright blue tails.
Five-lined skinks measure 5 to 8 inches long. They are commonly found in rocky areas and in the presence of an abundance of rotten logs, usually near moist forests. Five-lined skinks spend the majority of their time under shelter but can be seen climbing trees to feed on insects. Skinks feed mainly on grasshoppers, ants, beetles, spiders and crickets. Their tails have perforations that allow portions to break off when grabbed by a predator.
