What type of money does Argentina use?

The Argentine peso is the primary unit of currency in use throughout Argentina. As of July 2014, one American dollar was worth about 8.18 Argentine pesos.

The Argentine monetary system utilizes both paper money and coinage. Paper notes can be found in denominations of 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 pesos, while coins come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 centavos. A 1-peso coin is also issued. As of 2014, American dollars are widely accepted by businesses in tourist areas. According to Lonely Planet, the 1-centavo coin is rare, and larger paper notes may be difficult to change with taxi drivers and at local stores.
