The Jackson 5 performed funky pop music, dubbed "bubblegum soul." Bubblegum soul music combines elements of traditional soul music with the upbeat energy of bubblegum pop music.
The Jackson 5 were ultimately signed to Motown Records, one of the most successful American record labels of the 1960s. The label's collective group of artists performed styles of music similar to that of the Jackson 5, often referred to as the "Motown Sound." The Motown Sound, like bubblegum soul, combined soul music with pop influences. Other popular artists that have performed on the Motown label throughout history are the Supremes, Lionel Richie and Boys II Men.
