What are some types of fir trees?

Some types of fir trees include the balsam fir, Himalayan fir and the noble fir. All real fir trees are part of the Abies genus.

The balsam fir is prized for the fragrance of its resin. If it's not cut down as a Christmas tree, it can grow between 40 and 90 feet tall.

The Himalayan fir is native to Nepal, China, India and Afghanistan and is also prized for its fragrance. It can grow to 100 feet tall and does best in hardiness zones 7 through 9.

Though the Himalayan fir can grow as tall as 100 feet, the noble fir can grow even higher. It has been known to grow to 240 feet tall. It is native to the northwestern regions of the United States.
