The forms of lyric poetry include the lyric poem, sonnet, dramatic lyric, dramatic monologue, elegy and ode. A lyric poem is any poem spoken by just one voice that expresses that individual's state of mind, feelings, perceptions and thoughts.
The author expresses perceptions and feelings or underlying motivations and character in each of the forms of lyric poetry. Most forms of lyric poetry are relatively short, with the exception to this being the ode. Odes are long lyric poems where the speaker resolves an emotional problem through a long period of observation. In odes, stanzas are either regular or irregular. Odes can also fall into the personal lyric or standard lyric poem categories.
