In the United States, the most common trick-or-treat time is from 5-8 p.m. Some neighborhoods or communities start as late as 6 p.m., while others have no set start time. End times range from 7 p.m. at the earliest to 9 p.m. at the latest.

Typically, jurisdictions in more rural areas have earlier start times and later end times for trick-or-treaters. Urban areas tend to start early, but these locales also require trick-or-treaters to stop earlier.

Some areas do not maintain any kind of official trick-or-treat times. However, even in these areas, children should not remain on the streets very late after dark on Halloween, due to the night's historical association with mischievous activity.
