What is the typical vaccination shot schedule for puppies?

Puppies should have the five-way or combination vaccine at ages 6 and 9 weeks. This vaccine protects puppies from adenovirus cough, hepatitis, parainfluenza, parvovirus and distemper, according to Pet Education. Puppies at high risk for exposure to parvovirus should get the parvovirus vaccine at 5 weeks of age.

Puppies 12 weeks old and older should get the rabies vaccine, notes Pet Education. At ages 12 and 15 weeks, puppies should get the combination vaccine with leptospirosis, coronavirus and Lyme in areas of the country where these diseases affect dogs. Adult dogs should get the combination vaccine booster yearly, although dogs at low risk of disease exposure may not require yearly boosters.
