What is a typology chart?

A typology chart is a visual outline of the characteristics between different groups that share a common type. Typology charts typically present these characteristics in contrast to each other or in a sequential order of events, so that viewers can easily identify relationships between the groups.

Typology charts compare and contrast people, ideologies or events within the same class. For example, a political typology chart may display the contrasting views of different social groups on the same issues. Some typology charts have a timeline design in order to indicate events that occur simultaneously within a certain subject. For example, a biblical typology chart may reference secular and biblical events that occurred within the same time span.
