What is ultra-lightweight luggage?

In order to be considered standard lightweight, luggage must weigh less than ten pounds. The ultra-lightweight luggage category weighs in at even less than that, typically between four and eight pounds.

There are several advantages to purchasing lightweight or ultra-lightweight luggage over some of the heavier alternatives. These include having better mobility through the airport and the plane, being able to lift the suitcase into the overhead bins, the ease of meeting the airlines’ weight restrictions and the protection and structure of a suitcase without the weight or bulk. A possible disadvantage is that lightweight suitcases are less sturdy than their heavier counterparts.
