Even though the idea was started in 1942, the United Nations was officially formed on the October 24, 1945. The UN was formed after ratification of the United Nations Charter by the United Kingdom, Soviet Union, China, United States, France and several other signatories.
The United Nations was formed shortly after the World War II in order to help prevent any future conflicts of such magnitude. The organization deals with promotion of international cooperation in order to foster peaceful co-existence and international security. The UN is made up of 192 countries and plays an important role in conflict resolution and disaster management around the globe.
