Bicameralism of the United States Congress is in accordance with the basic principle of the government contained in the Constitution, that the government must be separated into two equal powers to prevent tyranny. The two-chamber design of the Congress is a portrayal of the principle.
The Congress is made up of 435 members of the House of Representatives, 100 senators and five non-voting delegates. This makes an assembly with a total of 540 members. The number of representatives from each state relies on the population of the state. The two chambers are considered equal although there are a few differences. The U.S Constitution grant each chamber independent powers.
