Does Uranus have rings?

Uranus does have rings. However, unlike the rings of Saturn, the rings of Uranus are very faint. A group of astronomers first discovered nine of the rings in 1977. Additional rings have been discovered since then.

As of 2014, Uranus has 13 rings. They are dark and likely made of water ice with some organic materials. Scientists speculate that they're the remnants of moons that broke apart during collisions.

William Herschel, the astronomer who discovered Uranus, claimed to have discovered rings around the planet as far back as 1789. However, modern scientists believe the rings are too faint for Herschel to have seen them through the telescopes he constructed at that time.
