In technology, the definition of USB stands for universal serial bus. The most commonly used USB devices include flash drives, keyboards, mice, printers and external hard drives.
The universal serial bus was developed in the mid-1990s to standardize the connection and the input of computer devices. Beyond standard USB devices such as keyboards and mice, USB is commonly found on devices such as video game consoles, cellphones and PDAs. Since its creation, USB has received five updates between 1996 and 2014. The first version, USB 1.0, offered a transfer rate of 1.5 Mbps per second. In contrast, USB 3.1, the latest version as of September 2014, has a transfer rate of 9,600 Mbps per second.
