How do you use honey for a cough?

According to WebMD, two teaspoons of honey can help calm a cough. WebMD states that consuming the honey before bedtime could help relieve a cough just as well, if not better, than over-the-counter cough medication.
According to WebMD, honey can be a supportive care option for people who are suffering from a cold or from the flu. However, honey should not be given to children below the age of one, because these children may be at risk of developing botulism from consuming the honey. This home remedy should also not be used in adults or children who have a fever, have a prolonged cough that has worsened over time, are wheezing or have cold symptoms that have lasted for longer than two weeks, states WebMD.
