A couple of drops of isopropyl alcohol into the ear following showering or swimming can help to prevent swimmer's ear, according to WebMD. Alcohol can also be mixed in equal parts with white vinegar, too.
There are a number of ways to prevent swimmer's ear in addition to using alcohol, claims WebMD. One method is to ensure the ears are dry following swimming or a shower. This can be done with a towel or a hair dryer. The ear can also be drained by wiggling the ear lobes, then tilting the ear to allow the water to flow out. Over-the-counter ear drops may also help to prevent swimmer's ear.
