The marketing, sale or use of jamming devices is a violation of U.S. federal law, according to the U.S. Federal Communications Commission. Signal jamming equipment creates serious safety risks, including interrupting law enforcement communications and preventing individuals from calling emergency services.

As of 2015, individuals caught selling, marketing or using jamming equipment may face significant financial penalties up to $16,000 per day for each violation. The maximum fine is $112,500 for each act, advises the FCC. Individuals are subject to imprisonment and seizure of the jamming equipment as well.

Wireless networking services, personal communication services, cellular service, police radar and global positioning systems are protected by federal jamming laws, notes the FCC. Individuals can file a complaint against a seller or user of jamming equipment at FCC.gov/complaints.
