Where is the uterus located?

According to Inner Body, the uterus is located behind and slightly above the bladder, centered between the hips in a woman. It is above the cervix and the vagina, according to WebMD. The top of the uterus is connected to the fallopian tubes.

The uterus is also known as the womb as it carries the baby once an egg has been fertilized, and it is about the size and shape of a pear, notes WebMD. The uterus is also responsible in part for the menstrual cycle as the lining thickens each month in preparation for a fertilized egg to implant in the uterus, according to Inner Body. If the egg is not fertilized, both the egg and the lining pass out of the body during menstruation.
