A utility bill payment is the monthly payment a homeowner, renter- or business pays for utilities. Common utilities are electric, water, gas, sewer and garbage pickup.

Utilities are based on the amount of the service used by each building or tenant, so amounts vary from month to month. Utility customers can ask if the service can be budgeted for an equal amount each month if a stable payment amount is needed to accommodate a tight budget. That even payment amount, however, should not be taken as a reason to use extra electric, because overages are charged at the end of the budgeted period.
