Do various hitches have a different towing capacity?
By Forinfos - 10/02/2025 - 0 comments
Trailer hitches have different towing capacities and are divided into ratings ranging from class I to class V. Hitches within a particular class have the same towing weight capacity and typically the same receiver opening, although class II can sometimes vary.
The weight rating of the hitch should be greater than the load being towed to ensure safe hauling. Hitches are rated on their gross trailer weight. Class I is rated up to 2000 pounds, class II up to 3500 pounds, class III up to 10,000 pounds, class IV up to 14,000 pounds and class V up to 17,000 pounds.
