Do different varieties of granite have different costs per square foot?

The cost of granite is based on a variety of factors, including the amount of soft minerals in the stone, color, slab thickness and country of origin. As of 2015, the price of granite can range from $39 to $150 or more per square foot.
Granite is priced based on groupings also known as grades. Higher grades of granite are more expensive and have coloring or variations that may be scarce or have a high demand. The higher quality granite generally has a thicker slab, but may also contain softer minerals that require special sealants to keep it from staining. The amount of cuts, seams and cost of labor also affect the price of granite used for countertops.
