Some vehicles that manufacturers have touted as flying cars include the Neuera and the Skycar by Moller International and the Transition by Terrafugia. These "flying cars" are equipped with both wheels for ground-riding and wings for flying, as are modern airplanes. Pilot licensure is necessary to operate these crafts.

As of 2015, the Neuera by Moller International claims to be the first to introduce this new type of car to the market. This new genre of vehicle is referred to as a "volantor," as it is a vertical take-off and landing, or VTOL, craft. The Neuera is a combination of a hovercraft, boat, recreational vehicle and utility vehicle that operates up to 10 feet above the ground.
