What is venous angioma?

A venous angioma is a collection of small blood vessels that drain into a larger vein, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. These vessels resemble the spokes of a wheel and are also called developmental venous anomalies, or DVAs.

Developmental venous anomalies are usually benign. They occur in as many as one in 50 people. DVAs can occur anywhere in the body, but they are found most often in the spinal cord or brain. DVAs may lead to more serious conditions, such as bleeding in the brain, and may increase the risk for stroke, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. Developmental venous anomalies have no outward symptoms.
