What biome does the giant panda live in?

According to the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, the giant panda's natural biomes are coniferous and broadleaf forests with dense bamboo growth under the forest canopies. The forests giant pandas live in are typically at elevations of 5,000 to 10,000 feet.
The Smithsonian reports that giant pandas are found in the Gansu, Sichuan and Shaanxi provinces of China. While giant pandas are now found in a mere handful of mountain ranges and not in lower elevations, the Smithsonian explains that human development and clearing of forests is what forced giant pandas to live solely at higher elevations.
The giant panda is endangered, as there are only about 1,600 left in the wild.
