Vince Flynn authored 13 books in total, each centering on the undercover Central Intelligence Agency counter-terrorism agent protagonist Mitch Rapp. His first novel, "Transfer of Power," was actually the third book in the plot chronology; "American Assassin" and "Kill Shot" were books one and two, published in 2010 and 2012, respectively.
Flynn died of prostate cancer in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 19, 2013. The novelist Kyle Mills continues to write the "Mitch Rapp" series, and his first work in the series, "The Survivor," was published in 2015.
