Do viruses have DNA?

Viruses may have DNA or RNA inside of their cells. However, viruses are not living and cannot replicate without the aid of a host organism such as a human.

Viruses are nonliving chemicals that are only able to reproduce and thrive in the presence of a host. They do have genetic material that they use to replicate themselves once they have inserted themselves into a host organism. Viruses may either have RNA or DNA genetic information. If they have RNA genetic information, then they also have reverse transcriptase in order to convert their RNA into DNA inside of a host cell. If they have DNA genetic material, then they do not need any special enzymes or machinery to replicate themselves inside of a host.
