Do you have to wait six months again if your permit expired in Pennsylvania?

If a learner’s driving permit expires in the state of Pennsylvania, there is an option to apply for an extension. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation states that an extension is valid for up to a year from the date the learner’s permit was issued.
An extension can also be used if an individual fails the road test three times, or if more time to practice for the license test is needed. The Pennsylvania DOT explains that a person can apply for extensions at most local driver’s license centers. The process simply requires completing the Non-Commercial Learner’s Permit Application and paying the duplicate fee, which was $5 as of 2014.
