Wal-Mart provides varied options as far as the voltage, type, price, brand and efficiency of its air conditioners. Consumers must ensure their spaces can handle the voltage requirements. The efficiency of a given air conditioner is measured in British thermal units. These units are abbreviated as BTU. A BTU is the amount of heat it takes to raise 1 pound of water to 1 degree Fahrenheit. The BTU number explains how much heat an air conditioner can remove from a space per hour.
