Beginning Dec. 31, 2014, Walgreens' stock exchange symbol is WBA, notes Fox Business. The new ticker symbol began a few days after shareholders approved the purchase of the remaining shares of European health and beauty retailer Alliance Boots, to form the holding company Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc.
For 87 years, Walgreens traded under the stock exchange symbol WAG, according to Forbes. With the acquisition of Alliance Boots, the newly formed company changed its symbol and also stopped trading on the New York Stock Exchange, to begin trading only on the Nasdaq. Walgreens is a subsidiary of Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc.
