The term "Walker puppies" usually refers to treeing Walker coonhound puppies. Walkers are a breed of scenthound originally bred by the Walker family to hunt raccoons. They were derived from foxhounds and have the classic foxhound coloring of white, black and brown.
The breed was first recognized by the United Kennel Club in 1945. It has not yet been recognized by the American Kennel Club. Walkers are high-energy hunting dogs. They stand 20 to 27 inches tall and weigh 45 to 70 pounds. They are bred to locate raccoons by scent and corner them in trees, calling loudly the entire time to advertise their location during hunts.
