Where do wasps go in the winter?
By Forinfos - 17/02/2025 - 0 comments
Young queen wasps mate in a home nest. When other wasps die off, the queen wasp leaves the colony and hibernates under a rock or inside tree bark for the winter.
Hibernating queens may die over the winter due to predators, such as spiders, or a warm winter, which may encourage the queen to emerge too soon. Without blooming plants and flowers available, she starves. In the spring, queens are responsible for pollination. A queen wasp builds a nest from wood shredded from wood fences or sheds glued together with a paste made from saliva and wax. A queen wasp lays approximately 100 eggs a day.
